At this year’s ISPO Scientific Meeting the Blatchford Lecture will be given by Jean Paysant of the Institut Regional de Readaptation, Nancy, France. Prof Paysant will discuss the differences introduced into the gait of trans-femoral amputees by the use of a microprocessor-controlled knee. He will report on an extensive study which used both laboratory-based gait analysis and ambulatory monitoring of daily activity to assess the gait patterns of three groups of subjects: non-amputees; trans-femoral amputees with a normal swing-phase control knee; and transfemoral amputees with the C-Leg prosthetic knee unit.

New 4-digit membership numbers
Effective 1 April 2009, all ISPO members have been allocated a new 4-digit membership number. If you have already received your 2009 membership card with your old 8-digit membership number, this will remain valid until 31 December 2009. For the year 2010, however, your membership card will reflect the new 4-digit number.
It is important to note, however, that for access to the Members section of the ISPO International website (see below), only the new 4-digit membership number will be accepted.
Important Changes to ISPO International Website
Please note that the ISPO international website address has now changed to www.ispoint.org
With effect from April 2009 access to the restricted pages of the ISPO international website will be by new 4-digit membership number only. On your first access to the restricted pages, your 4-digit number should be used as both your log-in and password. Thereafter you will be offered the opportunity to change your password.
For an interim period access to the restricted pages may be denied to allow important technical updates to be completed. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.
If you continue to experience difficulties with access to the restricted pages or have not received your new 4-digit membership number, please contact ISPO UK NMS Secretariat by e-mail: info@ispo.org.uk or telephone 0141 560 4092.

Rebecca Beltran has now taken over the post of Treasurer and three new members have joined the committee:- Melissa Leong, Fergus Jepson and Tom Wickerson. Launch of RECAL Legacy
The National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics at the University of Strathclyde has announced the launch of The RECAL Legacy, which provides comprehensive bibliographic information about the published literature in the fields of prosthetics, orthotics, related physical medicine and rehabilitation engineering. It offers free access to over 83000 records with articles sourced from over 1500 journals spanning the early 1900’s to 2007.
The RECAL Information Service, which previously maintained this database, is now closed and the other services that were provided – such as Current Awareness – are no longer available. RECAL Information Services, which was launched in 1986, gained world recognition as the leading information provider in the subject and an unrivalled reputation for service provision. The RECAL Legacy is intended to preserve this unique resource, to offer free access to the database and to support the bibliographic information needs of education, research and clinical practice.
More information about The RECAL Legacy can be found at: www.strath.ac.uk/prosthetics
