Offloading diabetic foot ulcers: Recommendations from the IWGDF - G Jarl

Offloading is the most important among multiple interventions to heal plantar diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). This talk will go through the evidence-based guidelines for offloading by the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF). In short, the guideline state that for neuropathic plantar forefoot DFUs, non-removable knee-high devices are the first-choice offloading treatment, removable knee-high devices are the second-choice, ankle-high devices are the third-choice and footwear combined with felted foam the fourth-choice treatment. Surgical interventions can be considered when conservative offloading fails.
