Biomechanics and Footwear - T Stief

Orthotic footwear and footwear modifications are indicated to reduce mechanical stress acting at the foot and lower leg at patients with the diabetic foot syndrome. Effective orthopedic footwear modifications are rocker sole modifications. The treatment objectives are to influence the effects of forces acting upon and within the foot. They are not only used, to alter the plantar pressure distribution. Other forms of mechanical stress occurring at the foot and ankle region, like bending, torsional or shearing stress are to be reduced. The talk focuses on biomechanical perspectives, which are important for optimal, individual treatments.
